Post-Thanksgiving Wrap-Up

Well, we survived yet another Thanksgiving. This year was pretty low-key and laid back, as it was just the Fars and us at our place. Mom and Dad came over Wednesday night, and Dad and I got up early to go for a hike. The goal was Mount Si, but we decided against going the whole way up in order to make it back to eat on time and have some energy left over to put up the Christmas lights.

Dinner was smooth – no problems and a perfectly simple spread thanks to Amy and Mom. A quick after-dinner snooze, and then it was onto the roof to put up the Christmas lights. We didn’t have a ladder, so I put on my harness and self belayed myself to the edge of the house to clip the lights in place. It turned out pretty nice, and I’m glad we did it when we did, as the rain showed up in the middle of the process.

The next day Dean and I took off up towards the Pass to pick up a Christmas tree. We drove in Dean’s truck and thought we’d be ok, but didn’t get as far as we’d hoped, due to some slick hardpacked ice and a severe lack of snow tires. Thankfully Dean had a pack of shingles in the back which we used to reverse ourselves out of a ‘situation’ and decided to walk up the road and wait for some friends we were to meet to pick us up. They showed up about an hour later in their Jeep and we picked out our trees and made it back down before the masses in their Escalades and Expeditions started getting too thick.
