Ian and I stayed home yesterday- Weeman had a little fever and I’m still hacking up my lungs… It was good to be home for a day, but I spent the majority of it at the computer finishing up various projects, so it was rough. He is growing up so fast, and it’s amazing to hear him make connections and see his sentences get longer and longer! He loves to tell us all about the animals in his books or videos and toy box and knows all the right noises. Last night we put on his bear hat and he laughed and laughed as we scared eachother being bears. All of a sudden Old MacDonald has bears on his farm as well as the usual pigs, cows, horses, and sheep…

“So what do you want to do today, Ian? It’s your birthday!”

“Elmo.”

“You want to watch Elmo? But you did that yesterday!”

“Bus.”

“You want to go on the bus? How about we just sing a song about a bus, ok?”

“I do…”

I think we’re going to end up at Chucky Cheese sometime during the next few years, so we might as well escape the inevitable and go today. I’m just hoping the big, moth-eaten, animatronic rat won’t scare him so bad he won’t enjoy himself… It’s not really the place I would choose to go eat for my birthday, but what can I say- He’s two!

I bought a new skateboard deck on Ebay this last week and put the trucks and wheels that were residing on my old longboard on as soon as it showed up. I gripped it myself, and have been going out with Matt about 3 times a week… Ian really gets a kick out it and calls it a “book-ah”- He stands sideways on it, bends his knees and puts his arms out straight like he’s surfing and I’ll push the board along just nice and slow. He also likes to sit on it with me behind him and roll down the gentle hill outside our house. His sweet little “Yee-haw!” is so funny to hear. I love the trust he shows in me when we do stuff like that- He hangs on soooo tight and just smiles from ear to ear… I’m not going to be able to show him how to hit a curve ball or give him a whole lot of pointers on his free-throw, but he’s going to have a lot of fun in the meantime, and I think he’ll turn out ok either way.

The events of this last week have prompted me in an unfortuante way to get back into the habit of updating this journal… Ian, of course, is oblivious to pretty much all of the current events, and we’ve tried to really restrict what he sees on the television. He’s growing up so fast and I really want to capture as much of his little world right now as possible before he becomes the big brother in a couple of weeks. His second birthday is coming up at the end of this month and it scares me to wonder how many he will actually see before things totally unravel.

We’re getting a bit curious as to why the lad is getting sick so often… We brought him to the doctor yesterday and had a bit of blood work done (Ian is pretty brave – but knows how cry… !). There’s nothing seriously wrong from this first draw other than his iron levels, but I think we’re going to get him a full work-up in a couple weeks. Keep us in your prayers…

Before all that though, we’re heading down to Salt Lake City to see my Farfar. Last time we were there Ian was only crawling, so it will be interesting to see what he breaks this time now that he’s walking. Thank goodness for baby gates.

Ian woke up this morning with a temp and a possible earache… He’s been sick consistently at least once a month for quite a while now. I ran out for about an hour or so to play some tennis with Matt and missed the whole vomit episode, so I let Amy get out of the house this morning and run some errands while the boy sleeps. We had tickets to the Mariner’s game tonight, but it doesn’t look like we’re going to make it. I just feel so bad for the kid because he just gets so miserable that you want to cry…

Amy and the Boy are back at home- It’s been almost a month on the road for them, and that’s a long time to be living out of a suitcase. What’s going to be interesting is trying to get Ian back into our routine, as well as discipline. He’s picked up some interesting habits and gotten away with a lot more than I think he would have here at home, so we’ve got a lot of work to do before Kid.2 shows up in October…

Speaking of Kid.2, I think I’m the one going into that “pre-delivery nesting phase”, instead of Amy. It’s probably the result of being home alone with only so much space to clean, but it’s really gotten into my system; cleaning and disenfecting and the whole bit. At least they’ll have a decent place to come home to tomorrow morning…

Well, I decided to re-do the news section of this part of the website. The old news poster just wasn’t cutting it for me, so it’s out. The new one here will be kind of fun to customize and all as things progress, as it’s a bit more robust. The older stuff can still be seen…

here.

Ian and Amy are still down in Texas after a long vacation- long and hot, but good. I miss them.
